Kai Wallpaper

Developed from an 18th century Kaitag embroidery from Dagestan, this striking design reflects the bold, abstract language characteristic of these rare Caucasian textiles. Traditionally embroidered in contrasting colours with simple, symbolic forms, Kaitag pieces possess a distinctive primitive elegance and earthy, organic character. The craft was banned under the Soviet rule, leaving very few historic examples in existence today. Reproduced at the scale and colours of the original textile, the design translates powerfully into a large-scale wallcovering. Its panelled structure works equally well as a continuous surface or when used in more architectural applications - from installations above wainscoting to alcoves or as exaggerated backdrop behind furniture.
